Honoring a Legacy of Resilience and Community
The Daughter of a Dragon Drop-In Center was founded by Billie Simmons, a dedicated advocate and the visionary behind the nonprofit organization Community Action Alliance. This program stands as a tribute to her late father, Tobie Gene, a trailblazer who founded the East Bay Dragons, the first all-Black motorcycle club. Inspired by his legacy of strength, unity, and leadership, Billie created the center to address homelessness, poverty, and neglect in Oakland. The drop-in center embodies Tobie Gene’s spirit, offering a safe and supportive space for those in need while carrying forward a tradition of community empowerment.
